Got It

I received my little tiny player in a nice white giftbag. Now I have to learn how to use it!! Good thing I have all weekend.

PS

Well, I thought I was done. But Maurice just came to tell me to fill in my paper log with each individual blog address. That took a few minutes, but it's done.

Conclusion

Wow. Some days I thought I'd never get here. Yeah!!

I'm very glad I persevered. I've learned a lot; but I know all this is only a drop in a very large possibilities bucket. It was good to have my arm twisted a little and to be given an incentive to complete this project.

I think this process could have been made a little simpler. There were some things that didn't apply, and some that were outdated. There was a lot of extraneous data that could be simplified.

I'm glad I learned about all the possibilities. No favorites. And yes, I would gladly do it again. I look forward to the technology of tomorrow.

Thanks to my supervisors for their encouragement and help and for the time to work on this. I can't wait to tell others about some of the potential tools on the web that I would have ignored had this educational experience not been offered.

Thanks to management for having their eyes on the future. Don't fear change.

Audiobooks

I watched all 16 Overdrive tutorials.

I tried to access Netlibrary through the HCPL home page/online resources and could not find it. I thought we had Netlibrary. No more?

I played around with the Gutenburg Project. What a wonderful idea! However, these are printed books only, as far as I can tell. No audio feeds.

Downloadable audio books are a wonderful idea and I will follow up more on this. I've gotten too many books on CD out where the discs are damaged. It makes listening a frustrating and haphazard experience. E-audiobooks are the way to go. No scratches.

Podcasts

Well I fumbled my way through the podcasting lesson. I added three podcasts to my podcastalley account and added the RSS feeds to my bloglines aggregator. This seemed much harded than it had to be. There's a lot to choose from; a lot of what appears to be really weird stuff. I'd still like to just get an easy listening music channel like 101.9 that I could listen to while I work. When I searched for easy listening, I got all kinds of weird hits.

Podcasts

Still no e-mail confirmation from podcastalley.com. I will try again.

Podcasts

I learned that Yahoo Podcasts alerted me that it would be closing it's website on 10/31/07. I told Maurice. I registered with Podcastalley.com instead. It says I cannot continue until I have responded to my e-mail prompt. As of now, no e-mail has come. Will check again in the morning.

YouTube

Oh, but I didn't use the HTML Edit tab. I just copied and pasted. Why would the HTML Edit button be necessary?

YouTube

Hey, I did it. It works. Yeah.

YouTube

Here's the link:

YouTube

I choose this video because it's the first one I clicked on and it's short. I have work to do and can't play with this all day. I'm going to try to send it to my blog. I found the HTML Edit button, some of the other terminology I didn't understand.

#19 Award Winning Site from Web 2.0

I chose Google Maps. Wow!! What a fabulous site!! I watched all five videos under the "Take A Tour" link. So many possible uses for this site.

Google Docs

I opened a Google Docs account, wrote a short note, and figured out how to post it directly into my blog.

I'm delighted to hear that Microsoft's monopoly on word processing and spreadsheet applications may be coming to an end.

Sandbox

OK, my blog is now added. Another task done.

#17 Sandbox

I created an account under Maryland Sandbox, but couldn't find it in the list.

Wikis

Made my first entry for the pbwiki page I set up yesterday. This looks like it might be a good and useful thing.

PBWiki

I opened a PB wiki account for my committee.

Wikis

Wikis can be used for a resource, but not the only resource. They are not necessarily reliable. Anyone can add, edit, or delete content. Wikis are open to manipulation. Use wikis, but use them warily. They may serve a purpose in my life by being a collaborative development tool in a committee report. I look forward to trying this technique when the time comes.

#15 Web 2.0 and Library 2.0

Great Video!! Read the "Icebergs" entry. The "Just In Case" collection is or may be obselete. Wasted funds on printed materials that are available on the web.

Also read the "Library Experience of the Future" section. Libraries are not "collections"; they are convocations of people, ideas, and materials in dynamic exchange. Libraries are not in communities; they are communities.

Library personnnel must be educated in these possibilities of the future to educate the public.

Technorati

I cannot view the Technorati video. I need to get Quick View or somesuch program and I don't know how and don't have time to sit and figure it out right now. I must move on to complete 23 things on time. Must come back to this later.

Crunch Time

Only 2 days left. I must hurry to finish.

del.icio.us

Today I watched the 8 minute alternative video presentation. I opened a del.icio.us account. I imported all my favorites from my work computer to my del.icio.us account. I deleted some I don't use. I made one tag, but cannot figure out how to create another tag. Where's that option? I did not peruse the Charlotte/Mechlenburg County site at PLCMCL2 as recommended.
